The presenter will utilize lectures, discussions, videos, and case studies to support the learning objectives and facilitate learning.
This training will examine self-abandonment as a relational survival strategy and explore the roles of trauma, attachment, family systems, religious frameworks, gender expectations, and cultural conditioning in the development of self-abandonment. Participants will learn to identify self-abandonment and fawning patterns, differentiate them from healthy connection and interdependence, and utilize practical clinical interventions to help clients develop internal safety, self-awareness, self-trust, boundaries, assertive communication, identity, and authentic connection. Teaching will include lecture, discussion, and multiple experiential activities.

Learning Objectives:
1. Define self-abandonment and fawning and identify their relationship to trauma, relational safety, and adaptive survival responses.
2. Identify clinical signs of self-abandonment, including people-pleasing, over-functioning, conflict avoidance, perfectionism, and over-responsibility for others.
3. Differentiate between fawning, codependency, and healthy interdependence.
4. Apply trauma-informed interventions designed to increase internal safety, emotional awareness, self-trust, and connection with personal needs and values.
5. Recognize how the therapeutic relationship can reinforce or interrupt self-abandonment, including patterns of compliance, reassurance seeking, rescuing, dependency, and therapist over-functioning.
